The Rain in Spain......

.....falls mainly on the geocacher! So we went for a weeks Spring break to Majorca, the only catch being that Spring was decidedly absent. In fact is pi**ed it down every day. Torrential. The same week last year was 25°C and sunny. So much for global warming.

Fi got food poisening on the third day so that just about capped off a great week. We hired bikes from Pro Cycle Hire Majorca: http://www.procyclehire.com/ (well recommended....not just because our friends run it....and used by the great Sean Kelly) so I managed to get out for a few rides although I decided not to take in the joys of the mountains given the state of the roads. On my first ride I hit something and managed to rip a sizeable hole in tyre which meant that (fortunatley pre-poisening) Fi had to come and rescue me in the car.

I also managed a few geocaches whilst in Majorca, although not as many as I had hoped. One day I hunted for 2 hours in sand dunes in the driving rain and still never found anything. Such is the life of a geocacher. Another attempted cache was located high on cliffs above the bay of Alcudia. Unfortunately to get to the cache meant a bit of climbing which with wet shoes and rocks I really didn't fancy. Besides.....I had an ill wife to get back to!

The highlight of the week (for me at least) was a visit to the World Track Cycling championships at Palma. Had an absolutely wonderful evening with Bruce, Lisa and George watching Great Britain pick up 2 Golds, a Silver and a Bronze. Followed up with a few (too many) beers with Bruce recalling old times and bike crashes that we experienced together.

Just before leaving for the airport the sun came out. Typical.

Back in Switzerland for just over 24 hours before flying back to Spain. Barcelona this time, for more of the same crappy weather. I was there on business so not too much of a pain until it was time to come home. Unfortunately the plane was struck by lightning on the way into Barcelona so they had to give it a 100% inspection before we could leave. Consequently we landed in Zürich at just before mid-night. Ten minutes later and we would have been diverted to Geneva or somewhere else inconvenient. So it appears that I will be home for a while now and that means I should be able to do a bit more blogging.
