Cos my friend said you did and that you liked it!

I'm knackered! It's been quite a "full on" type of day now that the guys here at the clinic have given me a more realistic programe for a 35 year old sporty type. First up was 30 minutes on the cycling machine again. Funnily, they keep upping the wattage but my pulse doesn't seem to get any higher:

12th Jan - 130 Watts - 120 BPM
14th Jan - 140 Watts - 125 BPM
15th Jan - 160 Watts - 126 BPM

Also my resting pulse is quite low (always between 45 and 50 BPM) which is a result of the Beta Blockers (mind you, it used to lower than that from exercise in the good ol' days). Not really sure what my blood pressure is as there is a dotty nurse who comes in every morning and very rapidly determines 120 over 80 every day without fail.....

So after the "velo training" I headed for a gym session which, I am loathed to admit, I actually quite enjoyed. Although I did nearly knock myself out by heading a volleyball too hard! After lunch I again dropped the walking group so pi**ed off for a walk in the woods with only my i-pod for company. Not sure the wild boars appreciated my rendition of the Stone Roses.... but that's their problem ;-))

The big event of the day was the ergospirometry test. I knew it was going to be hard and painful and it didn't dissapoint in that respect. It had to be observed by the head of the clinic (and several student doctors apparently) who were upset to find that I was a cyclist. Cyclists always take longer to complete the test due to over developed legs and lungs. The test over-ran and I made quite a big puddle on floor of the lab. Unfortunately I don't have the results yet as they have to analyse the data due to a software problem.... Just hope I don't have to repeat the exercise any time soon as I was a bit woozy afterwards (had to go and lay down for an hour).

As the test over ran I missed the lecture on heart disease prevention. Not that I would have understood too much anyway. I think that there is a lot getting lost in translation at the moment, especially at the dinner table. The guys I sit with mumble at each other in Swiss German and sound remarkably like the farmer out of "Shaun the Sheep" (http://www.shaunthesheep.com) who is incomprehensible, although you kind of understand the meaning. Thanks to my sister-in-law I have the DVD which is keeping me and Fi well amused in the evenings. Funnily enough she also bought me "Shaun of the Dead". If you have seen that film then you will have a fairly good idea of the average resident in the clinic!

I almost forgot! I had the 24hr ECG removed today, along with quite a lot of chest hair attached to the tape. Ouch!! Disapointingly the only palputations were recorded after I went to bed and was thinking about work. I guess that says something. I'm reading a book about stress called "Relax and make your stress work for you" by Sarah Sutton. It gives a huge list of indicators for stress and predispositions for stress.... and I score on about 90% of them. As I said before, somethings got to change.

Well, at least I'm causing a stir in the clinic. I don't think that they have ever had an inmate who really wants to get better and has some uncompleted goals in life. I even caught one of the nurses checking out my bum today! She blushed and ran away (by the way the title of todays blog refers to this moment.... just buy the Kate Nash album and you'll get it). It's a good thing that Fi visits every day to keep the nurses under control..... she's quite handy with a fire extinuguisher ;-)) There's a fine line between reality and mentality at this place!

Oh well, I have two hours "velo training" tomorrow so I better get some beauty sleep. Maybe they will let me do 200 Watts.....
