So I've been home for a couple of days now having beaten a hasty retreat from the clinic early on Wednesday morning. I have to say that it's really nice to be home and to be able to do normal stuff. Well, when I say "normal" it feels strangely like being on holiday since I can do what I like as long as I take it easy and don't work.
I've set up a bike on the turbo trainer in the garage and bought some road tyres for the mountain bike which I will instal just as soon as I've finished writing this. Next job after that is to fill out a membership form for the local cycling club (Velo Club Zeiningen - http://www.veloclub-zeiningen.ch) which I've been meaning to do for almost three years now! They are a nice bunch (especially Tomi and Hubi who run the local bike shop -"Bike Point" http://www.bikepoint.ch/) and were quite keen for me to take part in a team time trial for them last year. Maybe this year?
You have probably noticed that my Geocaching count has been steadily on the rise over the past days! Since I have to do plenty of walking it's a shame not to combine the two activities, especially given the spring-like weather we are having at the moment. I had a new GPS for Christmas from Fi which I've been trying out. With the Swiss Topo map installed it takes a lot of the guesswork and frustration out of the hunt (see..... reducing stress!).
I went to see my GP this morning. Apparently, the heart, like all muscles, heals in around six weeks, which is great news since she thinks I'll only have to maintain low level exercise for another two weeks before starting to build up the intensity. She also said that I'll have to work part time (50%) for at least the first two weeks back and would like to see me during that period for a check up. We were talking about how I can reduce my stress levels in the future and suggested that I try to change my job or working conditions (e.g. going part-time). That is an option that Fi and I have already seriously considered since we would be able to survive financially and it would benefit both of us through reduced stress (I'd become a part time house husband). I'll have to meet with my boss to discuss further, expecially as I heard through the grapevine that they have "plans" for me.... which is positive... provided it fits in with the adjustments that I'm going to make to my lifestyle.
What else? We received the forms to fill out for our new residence permits. After five years (where did it go) in the country we go from a "B" permit to a "C" permit which gives us a permanent right to abode, although nothing like gaining citizenship which is a long, complex procedure without any guarentee that you will be accepted by the people in the village (and Hellikon always says "no" to everything). Anyhow, with Switzerland due to join Schengen this year, I see little point in going for citizenship unless the UK change their tax laws and start wanting a slice as well!
Oh well, those tyres aren't going to fit themselves...... but surely it's time for my afternoon napp?
